At Cobb & Douglas Public Health we are committed to educating the community, encouraging testing and ultimately reducing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and infections through prevention efforts, surveillance, risk reduction education, testing, treatment, partner notification and the provision of medical and social referrals as appropriate.

What Is A Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI)? (also referred to as STD)

This is an infection or disease that is passed during sexual contact through contact with infected bodily fluids: blood, semen, vaginal secretions, infected skin or mucous membranes (sores in the mouth). Signs or symptoms are not guaranteed. Or symptoms may be temporary and resolve on their own. You are still infected until you receive treatment. These infections are spread during vaginal, anal and oral sex, and sometimes by genital touching. HIV and Hepatitis B are also commonly spread by sexual contact, needle sharing for drug use, tattoos, etc.

How You Can Protect Yourself From Sexually Transmitted Infections:

Abstinence is the only sure way to avoid contact with a sexually transmitted infection.

If You Have Sex:

  •  Use latex condoms with a water-based lubricant during sex.
  •  Allergic to latex?  Use polyurethane condoms.
  •  Condoms are available for both men and women.

Are You Positive, You’re Negative?

Have regular physical exams which include sexually transmitted disease screenings. If you think you’ve been exposed or feel you are having symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection, get tested.

STI Clinic:

The STI clinic offers affordable testing for several infections, including Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Herpes and HIV.

The clinic accepts walk-in patients, but appointments are preferred. The number of walk-in patients we see each day varies depending our clinic staff and the number of patients who have not kept their appointment.

The STI clinic offers same-day appointments. Similar to walk-in patients, the number of same-day appointments varies each day depending our clinic staff and patient load.

Cost:
CDPH is unable to provide free services to STI patients. The cost depends on the number of people in your family and your income (a sliding fee scale). We ask that you provide proof of income on the day of your appointment.  Acceptable Proof of Income includes:

  • Two recent pay stubs (One pay stub is acceptable in some cases)
  • W-2 or Tax papers
  • Award letter from Unemployment or Disability
  • Financial Aid/Loan Paperwork (College students)
  • High School Students (ages 18 and under) must bring a Progress Report or School ID with the current school year on it
