About Vaccines for Your Child
Vaccines help the body’s immune system learn how to recognize and fight germs. It typically takes a few weeks for protection to develop after vaccination, but that protection can last a lifetime. Some vaccines require occasional booster doses to maintain the body’s defenses.
Vaccines in the United States of America are required to be licensed after extensive lab testing for safety and then monitored by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and National Institutes of Health (NIH) to identify any potential safety concerns.
Vaccines, like medicine, can have some side effects. Most people who get vaccinated have only mild side effects or none at all. The most common side effects include fever, tiredness, body aches, and redness, swelling, and tenderness where the shot was given. Mild reactions usually go away on their own within a few days. Serious, long-lasting side effects are extremely rare and investigated by the CDC.

Vaccines at Cobb & Douglas Public Health
Cobb & Douglas Public Health (CDPH) maintains inventory to provide all immunizations recommended for children from birth through 18 years old by the CDC and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
Most insurances cover the full cost of vaccines and your clinical administration fees. For children who do not have insurance, CDPH provides immunizations through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program which covers the cost of the immunization only.
