The Capital City Bank Group Foundation recently awarded a generous donation to the Cobb & Douglas Health Foundation for Safe Kids Cobb County. The check was presented by Capital City Bank Cobb County Market President Ron King, Commercial Lender Betsy Madrerohon and Treasury Management Sales Banker Daniel Shuford. Funding will provide support for safety education and equipment related to home safety, child passenger safety, poison prevention, water safety, pedestrian safety, fire safety, bicycle safety and youth sports safety.

Expounding on the decision by the Capital City Bank Group Foundation to lend its support, King said, “Ensuring the safety and well-being of our community’s children is a top priority for Capital City Bank. We are proud to support Safe Kids Cobb County in their mission to prevent unintentional injuries among Cobb’s youth.”

Safe Kids Cobb County, created in 1991, is a network of Safe Kids Worldwide and is committed to preventing and reducing the number of unintentional injuries to Cobb children. The coalition relies heavily on grants and private donations to purchase safety equipment such as car seats, booster seats, life jackets, portable pack-n-play cribs and bicycle helmets, for families in need. The most recent data from the 2022 Georgia Online Analytical Statistical Information System reveals childhood unintentional injuries continue to be one of the leading causes of death for children in Cobb County.

“Some of the current initiatives of Safe Kids Cobb County include child passenger safety and water safety, as motor vehicle crashes are one of the top five causes of death for children ages 1-14 years and drowning deaths rank in the top 10 causes of death for children ages 1-9 in Cobb County,” said Melissa Chan-Ieiba, Safe Kids Cobb Coordinator. “The funding will greatly help with getting equipment like car seats and life jackets into the hands of our Cobb families in need.”
