FREE Larvicide Tablets (Mosquito BTI Dunks)

Learn More About Mosquito Prevention Here

For sources of standing water that can’t be readily eliminated, larvicide tablets (Mosquito BTI Dunks) are an effective way to keep mosquitoes from breeding in these areas.

To assist our residents with controlling mosquitoes at their homes, Cobb & Douglas Public Health is offering free larvicide tablets (Mosquito BTI Dunks) that can be picked up at any of our health center locations. There is a limit of one package per household.

HOW DOES A RESIDENT GET THE FREE LARVICIDE TABLETS (MOSQUITO BTI DUNKS):
Beginning Friday, Sept. 25 and continuing through Friday, Oct. 30, residents of Cobb and Douglas Counties can receive one (1) pack that contains six (6) BTI larvicide dunks per household.

Residents can pick up the larvicide tablets (Mosquito BTI Dunks) at any of the following locations:

  • Marietta Public Health Center, Bldg. A – front reception desk
  • Acworth-Kennesaw Public Health Center – front desk
  • Smyrna Public Health Center – front desk
  • South Cobb Public Health Center – front desk
  • Douglas Public Health Center – front desk (Beginning the week of 9/28/26)

*If a resident does not have a home in Cobb or Douglas County, they are not eligible for the larvicide tablets (Mosquito BTI Dunks) and can check with their county health department or local home improvement store for similar supplies.

DOES USING LARVICIDE TABLETS (MOSQUITO BTI DUNKS) TOTALLY ELIMINATE MOSQUITOES?
No. Larviciding is just one tool in mosquito control that targets developing mosquito larvae.  Larvicide does not kill adult mosquitoes.

Here are some “Do’s and Don’ts” to keep in mind when using larvicide tablets (Mosquito BTI Dunks):

  • Do follow the instructions and dosage rates on the product’s packaging
  • Do apply larvicide/mosquito dunks to standing water sources that can’t be drained, covered, or removed.
  • Do wash your hands with soap and water after handling larvicide/mosquito dunks
  • Do reapply larvicide/mosquito dunks every 30 days during mosquito season (usually March – October)
  • Don’t use larvicide for water that can be easily dumped, like bird baths and kiddie pools.
  • Don’t use more product than directed by the dosing instructions.
  • Don’t place larvicide in water that will be used for drinking or human consumption
  • Don’t place larvicide/mosquito dunks in flowing water like creeks and streams
