The Power in Truth Conference, a Douglas County leadership development event that empowers youth to avoid high-risk behaviors, overcome negative influences, and make informed decisions about their health, is now in it’s 21st year. This NACCHO Award-winning event has provided thousands of young people with techniques to help them navigate the difficulties of adolescence—and 2021’s event will continue that tradition.
Because of COVID-19, Power in Truth will be virtual for a second year in a row. When our programming was in-person, we reached an average of 500-600 students—but those numbers increased significantly last year when we went virtual. The 2020 event yielded over 2,400 attendees, and it’s anticipated 2021’s conference will see even more. The techniques used to connect with youth during COVID-19 earned the 2020 Power in Truth Conference an honorable mention for the 2021 NACCHO Innovative Practice Award.
The 2021 Power in Truth Conference is set to launch on Monday, October 25th within the middle and high schools of Douglas County. The event will run for 30 days and once it’s over, materials from the event will be available online for one year. This gives more students access to our content than ever before. Power in Truth going digital has launched a new era for the event—one with endless opportunities for growth, innovation, and most importantly, impact on the youth of Douglas County.
