According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1.2 million people in the United States are living with HIV, and nearly 1 in 8 don’t know they are infected. Georgia is ranked 5th in the nation for people living with HIV, and two-thirds (64%) live in the Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) according to the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH).

“Our HIV Prevention Team, led by HIV Health Educator Candice Turner, has worked diligently to increase testing events in Cobb and Douglas counties,” said Rachel Franklin, Director of Epidemiology at Cobb & Douglas Public Health. “We’re so thankful to be partnering with local Walgreens locations so that we can get out into the community and talk with the public about the importance of knowing their status and reducing the stigma surrounding HIV. Having partners like this really helps impact the community in a positive way.”

This free event is open to everyone. No appointments are necessary. All testing results are confidential, available in 20 minutes and no needles or blood are used.
