In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, August 1-7, Cobb & Douglas Public Health is encouraging local mothers to join thousands of nursing mothers and their babies throughout the world to take part in the BIG LATCH ON.
The BIG LATCH ON includes groups of breastfeeding women who come together at registered locations around the world, at a set time and they all feed their child for one minute while being counted by witnesses. The numbers will be calculated to see if the numbers are higher than previous records or maybe even the world record.
The event will take place in both Douglasville and Austell:
August 2 – WellStar Douglas Hospital – Sycamore Room – 10:00 am – 11:00 am
August 3 – WellStar Cobb Hospital – Wisteria Jasmine Room – 10:00 am – 11: 00 am
In addition to the BIG LATCH ON event and to recognize mothers for their effort to breastfeed their babies, Cobb & Douglas Public Health through their Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program will also be sponsoring World Breastfeeding Week booths on August 6 in the Douglas Public Health Center located at 6770 Selman Drive, and on August 7 in the Marietta Public Health Center located at 1650 County Services Parkway. The booths will be located in the front lobby of both health centers and will provide the community with important information about the benefits of breastfeeding from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
